Since ducats (and you and I) all need our daily link/fix. I decided to start an occasional "daily ducats" link feature. Feel free to join in, I can't do it every day... :)

here's my favorite Eyes (among many):

and while you're there, give a review to the brilliant CMiller board, there aren't any yet!

that's the ticket!!!!!!

I've been listening to jg's 5-4-77 from above (comes a time at the moment)

his + sdh (before he left us) links are going to be hard to compete with - but the idea is perfect - turn the computer on and bliss will only be a click away!!!!!!!!!

I might have to learn how to do it so I can "chip in".

Well, I could've put a joke in there....but I just saw where ducats was wishing people would post more links, so...

Although TDIH '69 should be enough for any head...

Speaking of Eyes, is there a shadow of Eyes in the Other One at 3:20 on:

Is there?

Also, despite the so-so review I like this long Eyes:

I listened to it, I think it's too minor-key to be an "Eyes" riff...but Jerry does quote "Slipknot" briefly at 3:45... :)

Yes, I had the melody snippet in my head but couldn't place it. Thanks.

Hey Cueball! You got the 10/29 part right, but you were off by four years.

Best EYES is here:

(admittedly, that '73 version is pretty sweet as well)

You know, you always quote this show as your favorite, and I am beginning to see why. I just listened to it again recently and the energy is remarkable. The Eyes is really beautiful, not a 90 mph version they so often did in 76 and 77.

Yes, and btw, I do realize, as Cueball pointed out, there are MANY great versions of EYES, and that DP15 is an excellent example, esp. since it's a stand-alone...so rare.

But what IS wonderful about 10/29/77 is exactly as you say--that slow, relaxed groovy pace, which then is followed by increasingly intense jamming so the whole thing comes crashing down into an amazing whole. There are lots of good '77 EYES...what annoyed me was the majority of those done in the 80's, which were so speeded-out it was like they were just trying to get thru the song as if it was "don't ease" or something.

In the 90's they returned to the relaxed pace with great results, i.e. 3/29/90, 3/31/91

hee hee...there are quite a few good ones! DP #15 is another '77 Eyes that I like. Instead of going into China Doll or something, they just end it... with a special ending piece that is really melodic and charming.

While we are sharing Eyes I'll toss one of my favorites: Kezar 1973. It has a tight yet relaxed feel to it. The band has laid down a great show and is in the final stretch of the 3rd set. At the 1:33 mark Weir shouts out "Yeah!" It's these little nuances that make me smile or give me goose bumps, the stuff that can make a show stand out.
